ZorgKiezer bij Eenvandaag: Meer overstappers kiezen voor hoger eigen risico

On December 30th, Zorgkiezer was interviewed by Eenvandaag to discuss the fact that a quarter more people are choosing a higher deductible to save on their health insurance premium. This can save up to €300 per year and is seen as a significant savings opportunity. It is expected that this will cause approximately 1.2 million people to switch health insurance . 

Peter Ruys (director of Zorgkiezer) :

“We notice that many people waited until the last minute and have now woken up because they want it sorted out.”

However, with a higher deductible, you also take a risk. For example, if you have an accident and incur hospital costs, you must be able to pay for it. 

More people are opting for a higher deductible

Of those switching through Zorgkiezer.nl, a third are opting for a higher deductible. This is because some are forced to choose a higher deductible because they can no longer afford it otherwise. Looking at the packages purchased, physiotherapy is the most frequently removed from supplementary coverage.

Peter Ruys :

” We’re seeing people critically reviewing their supplementary insurance policies, especially physiotherapy. This is often included in the package, but people want to remove it from their supplementary insurance first for the coming year .”

The number of people who only take out basic insurance is increasing

Data from Zorgkiezer.nl shows that 15% more people are opting for only basic health insurance this year compared to the previous year. Currently, 4 out of 10 people opt for only basic insurance.

Peter Ruys says about this :

Until a few years ago, over 90 percent of people had supplementary insurance. But because premiums for these policies have risen sharply and reimbursements have shrunk, many, especially young, healthy people, are dropping out.
